Leonardo DiCaprio Meets With Trump To Discuss Creation Of Millions Of Green Jobs

In one of the more unexpected visits to take place to the penthouse at the Trump Tower on Wednesday, Leonardo DiCaprio and the head of his foundation met with President-elect Donald Trump to discuss how jobs centered on preserving the environment can boost the economy.

In a statement to The Associated Press, Terry Tamminen, the CEO of the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, confirmed the meeting at Trump Tower in New York City. Tamminen said the pair gave a presentation to Trump, daughter Ivanka, and other members of Trump's team on how focusing on renewable, clean energy could create millions of jobs.

"Today, we presented the president-elect and his advisors with a framework — which LDF developed in consultation with leading voices in the fields of economics and environmentalism — that details how to unleash a major economic revival across the United States that is centered on investments in sustainable infrastructure," Tamminen said. "Our conversation focused on how to create millions of secure, American jobs in the construction and operation of commercial and residential clean, renewable energy generation."

The Oscar-winning actor has been a strong advocate of fighting climate change and preserving wildlife, and his recent documentary, Before the Flood, addresses the peril that the world faces because of climate change. He has also been repeatedly accused of hypocrisy by his critics for not practicing what he preaches, such as criss-crossing the globe in high carbon footprint private jets. According to AP, DiCaprio previously met with Ivanka Trump and presented her with a copy of the film. The meeting with Trump's team lasted for about 90 minutes. The actor also gave the president-elect a copy of the documentary, and Trump promised to watch it, according to a person who was familiar with the meeting but not authorized to speak publicly.

Tamminen, who was secretary of California's Environmental Protection Agency under former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, said Trump was receptive and suggested they meet again next month.

"We look forward to continuing the conversation with the incoming administration as we work to stop the dangerous march of climate change, while putting millions of people to work at the same time," said Tamminen.

Despite the lip service, we doubt much if anything will come out of the meeting, which took place hours after word got out Wednesday that Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, who refuses to accept "climate-change", and whose policies have helped fossil fuel companies, is expected to be announced as Trump's pick to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.

It was unclear if DiCaprio flew in and out of his meeting with Trump to discuss how to make the environment great again, on his private jet.

What a waist of time? What does ego driven, entitled to everything elitist LEO knows about climate? I guess he must have read "1" Al Gore book, and watch his "famous" movie to know it all.
Politician and actor. What a great deal of climate expertise they bring to the table? LOL:)
Mr. President, don't waste your time please, and send Al Gore and LEO to where they belong - wanna be junk scientists.

DiCaprio meeting with Trump to tell him the Green Movement will create jobs protecting the environment . A blatant lie. Everything connected with the green movement has cost taxpayers billions of dollars. How will jobs be created? More windmills. There are thousands of broken down windmills all over America. Windmills produce, what, maybe 1% of energy needs but have to backed up by hydro, atomic or carbon sources. Solar, think Solindra. A billion dollar stink hole.
Carbon tax or cap and trade to protect the environment, what a joke. It has only created an energy poor population in Europe and Australia tried it for two years and threw it out. EVERYTHING sky rocketed in price especially food and the cost of electricity. I am pretty sure Trump will see through the silliness of DiCaprio stupidity.

I do not think that even one person has paid attention to anything concerning the condition of this earth. Climate change is causing our ice caps to melt, which, in turn, is causing the loss of the animals that depend on the ice caps for their food. Do none of you read...??? It will also cause sea levels to rise, which will flood, if not completely cover, a lot of countries on this planet.
The Green movement has been around and trying to make changes for many years, unfortunately money hungry men have been around a lot longer. Man is destroying the very planet that sustains us, for the all mighty dollar.
What will man do when it is so hot that you can not go outside during the day because of the heat; When man can no longer breath without bottled oxygen, because there are no trees left to provide that for us or when most of our animals species die off because of lack of food and/or habitat.
Most of the comments on this page has confirmed what I always say: " Man does not give a crap about the Earth because none of us will be here in 100 years to see or live through the damage created by the lust and greed that man has for money now". None of us my be here in 100 years but your children's children will be and this is the Earth you want to leave for them.
Man does nothing but rape, pillage and plunder this Earth all for the mighty dollar. Leonardo DiCaprio should know that "Money loving Trump will do nothing about Global Warming except invest in the companies that cause the damage for his "big" share of the money pie.

Does anyone in this comment section even pay attention to the amount of damage that has been done to this Earth by man? Does anyone even care?
I have just read some of the most uneducated comments that I have ever read in any comment section I have posted in.
The only problem that any of you have with him, that I can see, is your jealousy of him. Why else would anyone slam someone else so hard for trying to make a positive difference in the environment that we all live in. I think I know ... It is because none of you really give a crap about the Earth or any living thing on it.

For those that think CO2 has anything to do with "Climate Change", you are sheep. You do not investigate facts, and only regurgitate what you hear. CO2 is not an upper atmosphere gas. It is the heaviest of the primary gases. Everyone knows the higher you go on a mountain, the harder it is to breathe oxygen. The CO2 molecule is 30% heavier than O2 (oxygen molecule), meaning it stays closer to the earth’s surface. Ever wonder why a tree line pretty much stays the same? It is because there is not enough CO2 to sustain plant life that high. You may ask if CO2 is heavier, and closer to the earth’s surface, why don't we suffocate? It is because, not only is it the heaviest, it is also the scarcest of the primary gases. For every 3000 molecules that make up our "air", there is one CO2 molecule. Then you may try to refute with, scientist have proven when the earth heats up over the thousands of ice core history, CO2 is higher. This proves CO2 causes global warming. WRONG! CO2 is the most easily absorbed of the primary gases as well. It absorbs in earth, rocks, water, and guess what, ice. As the earth heats up, the CO2 trapped in all of these things, is released. It is an effect, not the cause.

So why is CO2 pushed as causing climate change, even from very reputable scientists? There are 3 reasons you hear CO2 causes climate change or global warming. #1 (The evil reason) CO2 is one carbon molecule and 2 oxygen molecules. Everything on this planet uses it, or interacts with it in some way or another. When you control CO2, you control everything. #2 (Not so evil) It is the big lie, so people change their ways. Reputable scientists know that people do not react to anything but crisis. Oil will run out someday, and if we have not changed our ways, or at least come up with alternatives, we are hosed. This is why reputable scientists support it, because you can't fund change, when people aren't spending money on it. #3 (Affect from #1 and #2) If you are a scientist, you are way less likely to get funded from the #1 or #2 proponents, unless you are on the climate change boat. Don't believe me, investigate all of this yourself from facts. Do not look at any site that has an agenda. Be better. Don't ever regurgitate anything without doing the research yourself. You only exacerbate the problem. There are several more reasons why CO2 cannot be the cause, but this should get your investigation going.

Stop hating on Leonardo. If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem. He is trying to solve the problem. Regardless of whether scientists say we are causing global warming or not, it is happening, and at a more rapid pace than ever before. We need to act. We need to start in our own ways, not depend on policies. We need to be advocates as consumers- use reusable water bottles, take time to volunteer and clean up our oceans, buy fuel efficient cars, carpool, plant trees, boycott products with palm oil, educate ourselves and others, invest in solar, stop pointing fingers and become the solution you want to be.

Look, refugees are becoming an international humanitarian problem. Part of Syria's problem started with drought and farm loss. In West Africa droughts are pushing out populations and causing war. In the Mekong delta, which supplies much of Asia's rice, water salinity is going up. Donald Trump is worried about refugees. He wants to spend billions on a military for unknown reasons (he likes Vladimir). But he doesn't want to provide risk insurance for climate change. Even if it's a potential problem and not yet clearly evident to his people!
