World's First Wind-Powered EV Charging Station Installed in Barcelona

Critics of electric vehicles attack the claims that they are a truly green source of transport, due to the fact much of the electricity that they use to charge their batteries is generated in coal fired power plants.

Introducing the new Sanya Skypump, the world's first ever integrated wind-powered electric vehicle charging station.

Urban Green Energy (UGE) and GE have just recently installed the unit at the headquarters of environmental services and waste treatment company Cespa in Barcelona.

The Skypump uses UGE's 4K vertical wind turbine to generate the power to supply GE's high-voltage DuraStation. The unit stands 42 feet tall and contains all required electrical components within the tower itself.

Nick Blitterswyk, UGE chief executive, said that "since launching the Sanya Skypump, we have received inquiries from companies around the world that are looking to embrace sustainability."

Plans already exist to install more Sanya Skypumps in the US and Australia later in the year.
