Reality television has arrived at the oil industry. Matt Stroud, a development producer for CrashHat Entertainment, has moved from California to Texas in his search for participants in his new reality TV show that will focus on the lives of real housewives married to men who work in the oil industry.
He stated that he is looking for someone who can show the rest of the US "the real American pride that goes hand-in-hand with being an oil field wife," and has already received 400 applications from wives eager to display their personal lives to the nation.
Jobs in the oil fields often consist of shift work, with workers working for two weeks solid, and then returning home for two weeks before journeying out to the oil field once again. Wives of oil field workers have a tight, vibrant community, and often swap advice on how to survive their husbands long stay's away from home.

Stroud said that "someone used the phrase 'oilfield trash' and I grabbed onto that. It had this idea of people with regional pride, 'We're oil field trash and proud of it.' It felt very marketable in terms of what would work for television."
Casting for the program will take place from the 9th of January, when he will be looking for 20 suitable characters, whom he will use to promote the show to prospective networks.
He admitted that, "the lifestyles are diverse. There are people who have a lot of money and people who don't. I can't even tell you what the show is going to look like."
If signed by a network it will not be the first reality show in the oil industry; Black Gold from Trutv was launched in 2008 and is now in its fifth season.
