During a summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) this week, Iran may allow visiting diplomats to inspect a military installation southeast of Tehran and targeted by UN inspectors as a suspected of being the site of nuclear experiments.
The Parchin military complex, according to Iranian officials, is a conventional military site and no nuclear experiments are undertaken there.
The Young Journalists Club, a news agency linked to the government, quoted Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Mehdi Akhoundzadeh as saying yesterday that while a visit by inspectors to Parchin would not be "customary", Iran "would be ready for such a visit."
The deputy foreign minister was responding to a request by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the UN's nuclear watchdog, made in Vienna last week.
The NAM summit, already underway in Iran, closes on 31 August.
