Terrorists Blow Up Kurdish Pipeline

An explosion was reported at a gas pipeline in Kurdistan early on Friday morning. The pipeline feeds gas to Kurdistan's electric power grid, and is responsible for half of the region's electricity supply.

"The gas pipeline that stretches to Erbil was blown up near the sub-district of Shwan last night," the Kurdish Regional Government's Interior Ministry said in a statement. Erbil is the capital of Kurdistan.

Kurdistan is a semi-autonomous region in northern Iraq. It is unclear who was responsible for the explosion at this point, but Kurdistan has been fighting ISIS militants since mid-2014. "We do not have information about who was behind this, because the explosion occurred at night," the head of Kirkuk's general police said. An investigation is underway.
