Ukraine Escapes Russian Oppression with $10 Billion Shale Gas Deal

Ukraine is on the brink of breaking away from its reliance on Russian natural gas, as it signs a $10 billion deal with Shell to develop shale gas.

The prices that Russia charges Ukraine for natural gas has been a source of constant conflict between the two nations for years, and finally it may be over. RUssia will not be happy, but for Ukraine it will give them more independence.

The contract will be signed toady after the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Russia's reply? ... remind Ukraine that it owes them $7 billion for natural gas that it was contractually obliged to buy in 2012 yet never actually received or paid for. - All part of the ridiculous contract that exists between the two countries in which Ukraine must buy a specified amount of gas each year.
